Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, FDA approved treatment designed to help individuals with certain mental health conditions. It is an outpatient, non-sedative, non-invasive, non-medication treatment option. It uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain, aiming to alleviate symptoms when other treatments have been ineffective.
TMS involves using targeted magnetic pulses to simulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. The treatment process includes:
Preparation: You’ll be comfortably seated in the treatment chair. The TMS technician will position the coil near the treatment location on your head.
Stimulation: The device emits magnetic pulses to stimulate the brain, generally resulting in minimal discomfort and a tapping sensation on the scalp.
Session Duration: Each session typically lasts 3-20 minutes, and you can resume your usual activities immediately afterward
Course Duration: A standard TMS course consists of approximately 36 treatment sessions.
Initial Consultation Phase: The consultation is a virtual appointment with one of our TMS providers. During this appointment a provider will talk to you about your symptoms, your medication history, your concerns and determine if TMS is a suitable treatment for you. If it is, they will determine a TMS treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
TMS Coordination Phase: Our dedicated TMS coordinator will work with your insurance (if applicable) to secure coverage, determine any out of pockets costs, and answer any follow up questions you may have.
Treatment Phase: The next phase is receiving TMS according to your specific treatment plan. You will do daily sessions with one of our certified TMS technicians who remain in the room with you throughout the entire treatment. The treatment phase includes brief weekly check-ins with your TMS provider with a thorough follow-up every ten sessions.
Follow Up/Continued Support Phase: After your treatment is completed, we may provide resources for continued care, offer TMS maintenance treatments, reintroduce TMS as necessary. We are here to continue to provide care and support, even after your TMS treatment course has concluded.
